SCI-FI-CON 2026

April 19, 2026

SCI-FI-CON 2026 went by in a blur! I had a great time, although I also had taken on a bit too many tasks. In the weeks leading up to the event, I was really busy both sorting all the things for the cosplay contest (sending out mails to participants, gathering reference images, making schedules, picking out music etc etc) and as I was also put in charge of SCI-FI-CON’s official webpage, there were a lot of updates in the weeks leading up to the event. I also wanted to finish my new druid enough that I could wear it!

The result was that a few days before the convention, I was honestly pretty burned out. Luckily, I have the best friends and husband, and they all came together and helped me out. Extra big shout-out to Ninarry, who stepped in and took care of the pre-judging at the event saturday, giving me some much-needed time to prepare the other things that needed preparation before the competition!

But I am getting ahead of myself – we already started friday with setting up our Warcrafters booth, doing sound-tests, gathering and planning the last things for the prizes and getting everything ready for the weekend.

Saturday I was able to be at our booth and meet the contestants to get some info before the show on stage. I was hosting the show, so I talked to the competitors and got some info about their cosplays to say while they were on stage.

The show went really well, and the contestants were all great! I loved the diversity of characters, from K-pop Demon Hunters to Five Nights at Freddy, Warhammer 40k and Disney. It made me so happy to see so much talent show up and give their best on stage. I especially liked the concubines from Mulan – they had some fun props and were so entertaining and spot on. And Mulan is one of my favourite Disney movies (after Tangled, of course).

After the show, I felt kind of sick, but I realized it was because the wig I wore was way too small. It was a last minute plan – I originally planned to make the headpiece for my new Druid, but I didn’t manage in time and just had to improvise. I hope I can make the headpiece before wearing it again, so I won’t need a wig. I took off the wig and just wore my own hair in a bun, and I think it worked out ok. In any case, I managed to feel better again in time for the Q&A panel that I did with D-Kitty, Stickweeds and Zibartas, where the audience were able to ask questions about us and our cosplay.

We finished the day at Memphis Mansion. I usually enjoy it, but it felt like they were struggling to make food for so many people at the same time, because it was a bit cold. But after a convention day, I’m always so hungry, I’ll eat anything.

Day two went buy in much a similar way, but a little bit more relaxed. This year, I tried to make the novice contest more accessible by not doing pre-judging. I just want the contestants to have fun on stage, and I think they did. It was a small show – just 8 participants – but they did so well and I was proud of them. Since there was no pre-judging, the judges had to find the winners while I was trying to think of things to say on stage. Because of the stress leading up to the weekend, I didn’t properly prepare. But I presented the prizes, explained the criteria of the contest etc., and luckily the judges returned just as I was running out of things to say. Pfew!

I managed to walk around a bit in my Barbie cosplay, and although only a couple of people recognized what it was, people still liked it because of my hair.

There was a storm coming, so Stickweeds had to return home early, in case there was issues with the bridge. So our Q&A sunday was a bit more intimate with just me, Zibartas and D-Kitty. But it was great and people had some nice questions.

All too soon, it was time to pack up our booth and say our goodbyes. It was an intense weekend, and it has taken me a few weeks to recharge my energy levels, but it was worth it – I had an absolute blast of a weekend, and I’m happy that everything went smooth and my two new cosplays got a positive reception!

Below some of the photos from the weekend – some taken by me and my friends, and some by the official event photographer, Casper Silber
