SCI-FI-CON 2025

April 14, 2025

The 11th SCI-FI-CON happened this weekend, and what an event! I’m not even sure where to start!
This convention is a bit different from others I attend, because I’m part of the organizing team for this one. My responsibility is the cosplay shows – setting the criteria/rules, receiving the sign-ups, communicating with the participants, finding judges, choosing music, scheduling pre-judging, getting people in/out at the right times for that and hosting the shows! It was a crazy amount of work, and I was really busy both days at the convention, but I’m also just so happy and proud of how it went.

Sure, there were a few small hiccups, but overall I feel like it was an amazing experience to see the result of so much preparation and work turn into something that so many people enjoyed!

For the first time this year, there was a stage dedicated to cosplay – previous years it was a smaller stage in the middle of the main hall, and this year we had a 2nd hall with some community booths and the big stage. One of the big things I want to achieve with these shows is to both give a place for practiced cosplayers to show off their talents, but also to provide a safe space for cosplayers who are still new to the game to get a feel for how cosplay contests work and to try to go on stage for the first time. And we did both those things with our Expert and Novice shows. I was just so damn proud of everyone who went on stage!

Another new thing this year was my cosplay group – The Warcrafters – all joining as well and setting up our booth right next to the stage!
Between my duty with the show and hosting a panel Sunday, I didn’t have as much time at our booth as I would’ve liked, but whenever I was there, it was always full of people who were curious and polite and it was great.

Sadly, I didn’t get to look around in the 3rd hall at all, which had some tabletop game tournaments and other things happening, so I can’t say much about it. The dealer hall had a very big variety of things to offer – of course Star Wars things, but also nostalgic retro toys, authors with their books, handmade crafts, merch from all kinds of fandoms, Legos and many other things. I didn’t have much time to talk to the invited guests (Spencer Wilding, Bai Ling and more), but from what I saw and heard, they were very popular and took their time to meet people, take photos with them and talk with them. I like the casual feel to the meet and greet at SCI-FI-CON. I’m not much of an autograph hunter or feel a need to get selfies with famous people, but I do find it very interesting to talk to them and hear about their experiences, and that’s usually possible at SCI-FI-CON.

I’m not sure what more to say – I’ve had an amazing weekend, and thank you to Warcrafters, the SCI-FI-CON crew and all the visitors who turned this weekend into a precious memory.

I’ve added some photos below – credit to Randers i dag, Casper (official Scificon photographer) and my friends.
